Along with Civilization IV and Sid Meier's Pirates

Railroad Tycoon goes mobile

Great news for fans of the legendary strategy game designer Sid Meier. US mobile publisher Oasys Mobile has signed a deal with Take Two Interactive to produce phone versions of three of the latter's simulations.

The unwieldedly-titled Sid Meier's Civilization IV Mobile, Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon Mobile and Sid Meier's Pirates! are all due out in 2008; we're betting they lose Sid's name by the time they make it to space-limited operator portals, mind.

Railroad Tycoon Mobile is first up, in March next year. Oasys says it'll feature 'most' features of the original game, along with enhanced visuals, customisable rules and streamlined controls for mobile handsets.

Civilization has already had one mobile game, released by Com2uS last year, as well as a separate version that came out for Nokia's N-Gage.

We're most excited about Pirates!, but that's probably a legacy of many hours spent plundering booty in the original C64 version (and more recently the very fine PSP remake). Can the mobile version live up to our piratical expectations? We've got quite a wait before we find out...
