Ever since Cro-Mag Rally and Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart, there's been no shortage of racing games for the iPhone; and considering the effectiveness of the accelerometer as a steering wheel controller it's no surprise.

But the team behind Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart, Polarbit, was apparently only cutting its teeth with the cartoon racer, and has put some serious work into a "gut-churning, tyre-burning, coin-op style" racer for the iPhone. Raging Thunder is a widescreen, high-res adaptation of the mobile hit, which has had us teetering on the edge of a very high seat ever since the trailer appeared back in July.

Judging by the screenshots the game's hype isn't an exaggeration, as the 3D visuals look impressively console-like, and if it can manage to keep the speed up without making the Apple handset too breathless it looks set to be an absolute blinder.

Another hot feature of Raging Thunder that's rarely been explored by iPhone app developers is wi-fi multiplayer. With other exciting dynamics, such as drafting physics and customisable controls, this look like the Apple racer to watch, so put your foot down and hit the 'Track It!' button now.

If you can't wait for our verdict, however, you can get your hands on it by clicking 'Buy It!' below.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
