Gamers long enough in the tooth to fondly remember their Amiga 500 or BBC Micro will also most likely recall Qwak, a static screen platformer in which players must help the titular duck collect all of the keys in order to open the exit and progress to the next level.

Fruit can be grabbed for extra points, and a selection of dementedly cute enemies will try to retard your efforts. Egging them, as with all disputes, will solve the issue.

Various environmental hazards also pose a danger, but a selection of power-ups (such as a propeller hat that enables you to fly) redress the balance.

The game has put in an appearance on Game Boy Advance already (and you can download a free PC demo), but Jamie Woodhouse, the game's original author, has now ported Qwak to iPhone.

The App Store version features an improved framerate, colourful redrawn graphics, ten tunes (which should help offset the irritating repetition of the original game’s score), and 70 levels spread across six worlds.

The game is available to buy from the App Store now, priced at £1.79 / $2.99 / €2.39
