Independent UK-based developer Toxic Games is currently working on an iOS version of its rather excellent first-person physics-puzzler Q.U.B.E. (Quick Understanding of Block Extrusion, for those in the know).

If you aren't familiar with the PC Unreal Engine-powered title, it tasks you with navigating a series of sterile-looking monochromatic levels, by manipulating a series of colourful cubes - each with its own uses.

Red cubes, for example, can be extended and retracted, while yellow cubes can be used to form stair-like structures. You get the gist.

Speaking to Pocket Gamer earlier today, Toxic Games managing director Daniel Da Rocha said that Q.U.B.E. for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, is currently in the "early days" of development.

Still, the studio has already created "various prototypes that demonstrate different gameplay mechanics and ways of playing the game".

In regards to a release date, Da Rocha told us it was "hard to say how long it will take to develop".

"But if we could release later this year that would be great."
