Hungry Shark developer Future Games of London has released a new game on the App Store. But while a traditional cue sports sim might not sound like a system-soaking graphical powerhouse, Pool Bar HD requires the iPhone 4’s extra processing might to run.

Presumably, the extra kick is needed to pump out the game’s rather stunning visuals. The game uses a swell mixture of lighting, shadows, and full screen anti-aliasing to create a very accurate dingy, disgusting pub where the floors are sticky and the bartender is horrible, and you’ll get stabbed for your mobile on the way out.

The pool tables are nice, though, furnished in lush, colourful felt. You’ll use those to play single or multiplayer pool, with US and UK rules, and against opponents with three levels of difficulty. It’s all controlled by touch controls, of course, giving you very accurate shots and spins.

It even has fast app switching. Pool Bar HD is available now, exclusively to iPhone 4, for £1.79 / $2.99 / €2.39.

Update: There is also an iPad edition, for the same price.
