Pokemon dominates Japanese game sales in June

The impressive June sales of Pokemon Black & White 2 helped put The Pokemon Company at the top of the Japanese software sales charts for the month.

For the sales period of May 28 through June 24, The Pokemon Company accounted for 34.5 per cent of all software sales figures.

This is the first time that the Pokemon publisher has been at the top of a monthly software revenue chart since September 2010 – when the original Pokemon Black & White games were released in Japan.

And now, for the other 75.5 per cent

Square Enix came in a decent – but distant – second place, reporting 19.1 per cent of total software sales revenue.

The release of Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D for the 3DS during this period likely helped it secure these sales figures.

Coming in a more distant third place was Nintendo (which owns The Pokemon Company) with 8.7 per cent of the software sales revenue, which is an impressive feat given that it released no new titles during this period.

Rounding out the top five for the month were Capcom and Atlus, respectively accounting for 7.3 per cent and 5.7 per cent of total software sales revenue.
