Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On, a mobile edition of the 6 year old 3DS solitaire horse racing simulator, launches onto Apple Arcade
Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On, from Pokemon developer Game Freak, has launched onto Apple Arcade. This little simulation title sees you engage in a very unique combination of classic solitaire and horse racing of all things. With some cutesy 3D visuals and such an unseen premise, it’s easy to see why many were happy to see this finally ported to mobile devices.
Pocket Card Jockey was originally a 3DS release, so it’s been quite a while since it’s received any sort of attention. Still, with a developer so prestigious as Game Freak behind it and it being unlike anything else out there, it definitely attracted a bit of a niche fanbase, garnering a cult following that likely reasoned Game Freak porting it to pocket devices so far after its release date.
I’m sure you’re wondering how these two styles of a game combine, so let me go over the actual gameplay loop. In Pocket Card Jockey, you’ll play solitaire as you go about your race. Depending on how well you do within this part of the game, your horse’s mood will be increased, allowing it to keep its energy charged and making it run faster and faster.
Depending on your location within the track, your solitaire rounds will get either more difficult or progressively easier too. And on top of all this, as you go about the track, you’ll be able to pick up various special cards that range from upgrading your horse to learning new skills and more.
You’ll have to be careful, however, as running too much on the outside of the track can cause your horse to lose stamina rapidly. It all makes for a pretty engaging system, and comes together to create a game unlike any other out there.
If that sounds like a fun time to you, you can download Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On for free at the link below as long as you’re subscribed to Apple Arcade.
