Digital boardgames have become remarkably popular on the App Store, with titles like Carcassone and Summoner Wars regularly garnering critical and commercial acclaim.

Now, New York-based boardgame publisher Z-Man Games has decided to take a step into the digital world and has announced a new digital label, F2Z Digital Media.

The flagship title for this new venture is going to be Pandemic, a hugely successful co-operative boardgame in which you and some friends band together to try and stop the spread of four highly contagious diseases.

Pandemic has been a huge hit in boardgame circles, with the first edition and one of its expansions winning awards. The revised second edition was launched earlier in the year and is still selling like disease-riddled hot cakes.

Z-Man Games plans to release a series of titles based on its physical boardgames in the not-too-distant future. Given the firm's impressive back catalogue, this means digital boardgamers are in for a treat or two.

We haven't got a concrete release date for the iPad version of Pandemic yet, but we'll be sure to let you know as soon as news of its go-live date lands in our inbox.
