Pac-Pan munches his way to top of Android charts

According to Medialets, Namco's free offering to celebrate the launch of the Android operating system, Pac-Man, is the most downloaded application on the Android Marketplace – the system's equivalent to the iPhone App Store.

At the end of October (approximately one week after the Marketplace launched) there were a total of 167 games, tools and applications for the Google OS, and the Dot Eater beat them all.

It's not a simple task comparing these figures with similar performers on the iPhone, since the paranoid operators like to keep download figures close to their chests. But this does demonstrate the possibilities open to Namco and other developers currently looking at Android as a gaming platform, so hopefully the news will spur things on for more arcade titles to take the plunge into Google's handheld waters.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
