Namco Networks might not be making any money out of giving Pac-Man away for free to Android G1 phones, but it's coining it in for kudos and positive player feedback.

According to mobile app analysis firm Medialets, Pac-Man is the most popular application on Android Market so far.

Google doesn't publish exact download figures, but instead sorts games into 'download range' buckets, with Pac-Man already in the 50,000-250,000 downloads range.

What's more, the game has had more than 2,100 comments – the most of any Android app. Its average user rating is an impressive four out of five, too.

How Namco capitalises on this in the coming months is the next question: we expect to see the game followed with more retro titles once the publisher can charge for them.
