It's been over a year since we last heard about Outwitters, One Man Left's follow up to action-arcade shooter Tilt To Live.

In terms of gameplay, however, the titles are pretty different, Outwitters being a turn-based, multiplayer strategy game designed for everyone.

As you might expect, some things including the art style, have changed during the past 12 months, it now having a more colourful, child-friendly theme. The hexagonal game grid remains firmly in place though.

Time to think

Rolling out as a free-to-play game, players will start with the default pirate fish Scallyways team. Each team has five unit types and a special character - in this case, a hermit crab who packs a mortar cannon.

You can also unlock two more teams - the Feedback robot army (who enslave enemy units as their special move), and the cute Adorables, whose Mobi whale teleports units across the map - via in-app purchase.

Each team's goal is to destroy their enemy's base.

Turn again

Depending on the mode you choose, you can play 1 versus 1, or 2 versus 2, with an online matchmaking system using Game Center to ensure you play people with the same skill level.

There's also a random practise mode and a Pass n' Play mode for local games. Obviously you can have multiple games on the go simultaneously a la Draw Something and the Words With games.

Outwitters will be released on Thursday 5th July as a universal app.
