Odin Valhalla Rising guide for new players

We'll start the Odin Valhalla Rising guide by sharing some of the tips that can help you get to the very Valhalla quicker, since that's what most of us desire. Of course, if you are more of a casual player, some tips will help you get stronger, too, which we've listed below.
Before we dive in, keep in mind that we have an article where we talk about the best class in Odin Valhalla Rising based on your play style, so make sure you read that too!
Is Odin Valhalla Rising F2P/P2W?
Of course, in Odin Valhalla Rising, there are the premium elements too. There are plenty of packs to choose from, but the real question is whether you really need them or not.If you want to get something specific quickly, then a pack can help you with that (most likely). Also, if you want to enhance your gear up to a specific level, they can also come in handy - but if you are a dedicated player, I truly believe you can get all that completely for free. It will require a lot of time and grinding, including with alts, so it's entirely up to you.
You can enjoy some offline perks too!
Just like in many other games belonging to the genre, you can enjoy some offline perks, such as farming/grinding. You will collect EXP and loot, but it's slightly less than what you would if you were doing it while online. That's pretty much where alts come into play. When you have some spare time, you can level up alts and set them to grind for you, which will help you get more resources, especially if you are a F2P player.
So, with all that out of the way, it's time to take a look at the tips!
Tip #1 - Make the right choices from the start

There are a couple of choices you should make right from the start. For instance, if you play with friends, you should pay attention to the server you select. Make sure you're picking the one your friends are on!
Then, you should pick one of the classes. We've shared the classes tier list in the intro, so unless you feel like levelling up several characters, pick the one you like the most from the start.
Finally, you need to decide what your goal is in the game. Do you want to level up fast, unlock the end-game, and then start having fun? Or do you prefer to take it slow, enjoy everything, and take a more casual approach? All of these matter, since there are several events you can only do when you start playing, and for a limited time. So, if you don't care too much about those rewards, you can always opt for a more casual play style.
Tip #2 - Stick to the main quests, then start farming

Regardless of how you prefer playing, you should always stick to completing the main quest first. This will help guide you in the early levels towards where you should be going, what you need to battle to gain some EXP, and also where some NPCs are.
I recommend you focus on the main quests until you're about level 50. There is no point grinding/farming mobs before then, unless you absolutely have to go AFK and you prefer leaving your character to farm.
Farming & auto combat
Once you decide to actually spend time farming, there are a few things to know. The AFK mode will let you be idle for up to 8 hours per day, which is great if you want to leave your character in a good spot overnight to farm resources and EXP.I suggest you use the auto combat option the "right" way, meaning you should turn on “no kill steal mode”. That way, you will avoid drama and possibly some other people coming to kill you (if you played some MMOs before where this was a thing, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about).
Pick good grinding spots
Find areas with lots of weaker enemies. You should also pick a spot that has a pretty high density, since what you care about is the number of enemies, the EXP you get, and how fast you can kill them. You want to farm enemies that respawn fast, not bosses. Check the map for monster drops and levels, and save great spots for quick teleporting.Tip #3 - Stock up on essentials!

Every time you are in town, you should make a stop at the merchant and pick up a few HP potions. You should have some in your inventory at all times, since you never know when you're going to need them.
You should also look for decent buffs, and try to keep some in your inventory. You might find a good use for them when you're fighting a stronger enemy and need some additional resistance or defences, or even some more ATK.
Trading is essential
If you want to save some Gold, I suggest you check the Trading Post. There, you can find all sorts of items, from weapons and armours to materials and consumables. The Trading Post uses Diamonds, and if you run into something you can sell, you can list it there!Tip #4 - About gear and how you should upgrade it

Since Odin: Valhalla Rising is all about getting some good gear in the end-game, you want to brace yourself for that. So, what you should do is start by only enhancing your gear to +3 or +5. There is no need to invest more resources than necessary into your beginner gear.
Then, you want to dismantle the gear you won't use. I suggest you only craft white gear, then upgrade it to green, and stick to that until you actually need stronger gear. This likely won't happen until well into the mid-game, since you can safely farm and do other things in the meantime.
Your goal should be to spend all your currency (well, not to spend it, but rather, save it) on the end-game gear. Up to that point, you want to spend the bare minimum on gear, and try to farm as much as possible.
Tip #5 - Join a guild!

If you played MMORPGs before, you know that guilds tend to form around a certain idea. In Odin: Valhalla Rising, you should aim to find a guild whose goal is the same as yours. If you want to do lots of PvP, find a PvP-active guild; otherwise, look for one that goes for regular boss/dungeon runs.
Guilds in Odin: Valhalla Rising are also good for granting various buffs and a bunch of other bonuses. It's also a great place to find like-minded players and form friendships!
So, the best course of action, in my opinion, would be to join a guild that you like the goals of, or even start asking in the global chat for a good guild recommendation for "dungeons" or "just chatting", or whatever else you would like. The community is extremely helpful, and most likely, they'll give you a good guild recommendation.
Tip #6 - Complete the codex - it's more than just a collection

Something that I find quite interesting is the fact that in Odin: Valhalla Rising, the Item Collection tab (Codex) is where you will get a lot of your base stats from. Of course, you will also get them from your gear, but if you were to remove all your gear, the passive (or base) stats are the ones you want to increase the most.
Just like in most other MMORPGs, your character's multipliers rely a lot on these stats, so for instance, if you were to have some high base ATK, when you get a multiplier with %, it will scale a lot better.
My recommendation is to try and get every avatar, weapon, mount, gear, basically everything that the Item Collection requires. Add them to the collection, but keep in mind that when you add something, it will consume that item, so you should have a duplicate if you plan on keeping or using it too.
Tip #7 - Other tips & tricks for Odin: Valhalla Rising

Since there are so many things to know and to do in Odin: Valhalla Rising, I've listed below a bunch of other tips and tricks for you to keep in mind:
- Use alt characters! You can try out different builds, and even having them passively farming for your main can be a nice little bonus. Just remember to pass the loot to your main.
- Go for dungeon farming - I suggest you go with buffs, and if you can't solo, then team up with other players. Try to farm dungeons with your alts too, for more rewards.
- Upgrade your inventory with Diamonds! Expand it, since it's going to come in handy later on in the game.
- Don't forget to do your dailies. Make sure you do all the town quests, daily and weekly dungeons, arena battles, and check for good deals in the Trading Post.
- When it comes to the weekly dungeons, pick ones with the rewards you need the most, like skill books or crafting materials.
- Get ready for open-world PvP. If you aren't ready to keep your eyes peeled for players trying to snipe you left and right, then it's best to avoid the fights (especially if your gear is weak).
These are all of the tips that we have prepared in the Odin: Valhalla Rising guide for new players. In case you're a fan of games with a Viking theme, take a peek at our Valhalla Survival tier list, or find the finest class in Flame of Valhalla!
