O2 mobile game download charts and new releases: October 17th

It's an epic week for game releases, in more ways than one.

The most prominent feature of the O2 new releases is a surprise, though undeniably welcome, mobile game conversion of Ridley Scott's Roman blockbuster, Gladiator. Some eight years after the film went on its cinematic crusade, the Spaniard is back in impressively true, 3D form.

Following close on Maximus' sandaled heels is something of a gaming epic: Saints Row 2, the sprawling, mature themed gangland sequel that's taking the big consoles by storm, and is now ready to brutalise the micro screen in open-world style.

And Gladiator isn't the only movie adaptation this week. The action thriller, Eagle Eye, also finds its way onto our mobiles, and while the movie's ratings might not be setting the box office alight the high-tech sounds as though it should serve the game very nicely. Attempting to our run surveillance technology while fighting for your life seems pretty appropriate for a mobile game, so perhaps we'll see this one elbowing its way onto the charts next week.

Which, after all, haven't changed a great deal for a good number of weeks. The one game that does seem to be making a repeated impact, however, is The Sims 2. Budging those classic, powerhouse puzzlers like Tetris and Bejeweled is a mighty task for any game, but the virtual life simulator seems to keep muscling its way back into the charts quite regularly.

Looks as though we may have yet another permanent feature in our Top 10, but at least it's not another puzzle game!

And on that rhyming note, we'll call it a do.
