Something for the weekend

Holy flat-bottom shoes, it's a lesbian superhero!

Something for the weekend
|
N-Gage + DS + Game Boy ...

With the imminent threat of football and terrorism hogging most of the headlines, we've had to dig a little deeper than usual for our inspiration this week.

However one story that did leap up to catch our eye was the impending arrival of the world's first lesbian superhero. Due to make her appearance in the July issue of DC Comic's 52, Kathy Kane is described as a 'lesbian socialite by night and a crime fighter by later in the night'.

Judging by the early furore among newsgroups, we suspect that super-PR must be one of her special abilities, and we can only speculate (albeit happily) upon the length of time it'll take for her to get her claws into Catwoman.

With the similarly dysfunctional X-Men having just hit the big screen in their third and apparently final outing (expect their next final outing next year) and Superman himself due to return to cinemas in a couple of weeks, it didn't take the powers of Professor 'X' to implant a theme into our minds. So where do you go if you want to be more powerful than a locomotive this weekend?

For starters, you can relive the big screen escapades of Wolverine, Storm and friends on your phone screen with the official X-Men 3 game as well as previous outing X-Men Legends 2. And if 'group action' is your thing (we're back to Lesbian superheroes again!) then you might also want to try your hand with the Fantastic Four on mobile.

Those with less subtle tastes can SMASH themselves silly with The Incredible Hulk Rampage or go duke it out with our super heroes and villains in the PSP's Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects, while those whose Spidey sense is tingling are spoilt for choice with Spider-Man 2 on PSP and Ultimate Spider-Man on DS and mobile.

Last, but by no means least, there's the chance to spend a quiet night in with plain old heterosexual Batman himself in Batman Begins for the Game Boy Advance. If you like, you can squint and imagine what he'd look like in a dress with lipstick on. No? Just us then.

(All the highlighted games are available now – so if you fancy something for the weekend, simply click on the game name to be transferred faster than a speeding bullet to a no-fuss, no subscription game buying page).
