Okay, hardly a 'stop what you're doing, jump up, jump down, and kiss the person nearest to you' moment, but Jack Tretton, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, this morning admitted the company is still toying around with the idea of a built-in hard drive or internal memory for the PSP, reports Kotaku.

"I think we definitely thought about it," said Tretton at a gathering of
game writers. "I think that's the trend moving forward."

It's a perfectly logical move given Sony's insistence on carrying on with its strategy of positioning PSP as a multimedia device. With new developments such as being able to watch films/TV shows purchased from the Video Store (via the PS3) on your PSP, the need to have an internal storage option on the handheld becomes increasingly likely.

Its necessity for handheld gaming is another matter entirely, of course.
