Around the world it's Monster Hunter and Pokemon Mystery Explorers, but the UK's got m&m's

There's a significant comparison at present between PSP game sales in Japan and the UK. In Japan, PSP is on the crest of a wave with Capcom's Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G having sold 1.5 million copies just two weeks after its release.

Here, however, during the next eight days only one solitaire PSP game will be placed on shop shelves and that's the less-than-exciting UEFA Euro 2008, the once-every-four-years drop from EA's FIFA franchise.

Yet when we look at DS game releases, while there's plenty of variety, there's not much that looks likely to get people opening their wallets either.

Sure, there's Square Enix's distinctive RPG The World Ends With You but that's only for the most hardcore japophiles, and while generic budget games such as World Cup of Pool and Zero G will no doubt tap some impulse buys, there's certainly nothing to write to home to Tokyo about.

But looking further afield, we notice the latest double-headed Pokémon game: Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Explorers of Darkness, sequel to Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team is due for release in the US soon.

No, of course there's no UK release date for that yet scheduled.

And somehow, the promise of those well-know gaming icons the m&m's in m&m's Kart Racing and m&m's Break 'em just can't compare.
