Mortal Kombat Onslaught is an upcoming cinematic collection RPG coming to mobile in 2023

Warner Bros. Games has just announced that it is working on expanding its fan-favourite franchise with the addition of Mortal Kombat Onslaught, coming to Android and iOS next year. The game is being described as a collection RPG that will feature a cinematic story.

Mortal Kombat Onslaught is being spearheaded by none other than NetherRealm Studios, who have already garnered immense success with the Mortal Kombat X mobile tie-in and both the Injustice games. The announcement couldn’t have come at a better time either since the franchise recently celebrated its 30th anniversary.

The game will combine visually stunning graphics for the first mobile-exclusive cinematic story with multiple other gameplay elements like role-playing, strategy, real-time battling, and collection. Players will find themselves building squads decked with iconic characters from the Mortal Kombat universe as they battle through hordes of enemies while trying to save all the realms.

Speaking about their vision of Onslaught, Ed Boon, Chief Creative Officer, NetherRealm Studios, said: "We are pushing the boundaries of Mortal Kombat to allow players to experience the franchise in new ways, while still staying true to its core visceral nature. With Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, we reimagined Mortal Kombat into a strategic team-based collection RPG with fast-paced, group melee combat that both new and existing fans can enjoy."

As of now, extremely little is known about Mortal Kombat Onslaught. An official website has been created but it only allows players to sign up for the newsletter right now. The artwork on the website does feature beloved characters like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Jade, and many more. There are definitely more of them waiting behind the curtains.

Further, David Haddad, President of Warner Bros. Games, added: "Mortal Kombat is a legendary franchise and pop culture phenomenon, and it continues to engage players and advance the fighting genre across multiple platforms. Mortal Kombat: Onslaught is a testament to why Mortal Kombat has been a top gaming franchise for over 30 years, as the NetherRealm team continues to innovate and bring new gameplay to fans."

More news should surface as the months go by and we inch closer to the 2023 release.
