Head-to-head online multiplayer to be absent from ModNation Racers: Road Trip

You gotta buy the game, stupid

Head-to-head online multiplayer to be absent from ModNation Racers: Road Trip

Sony's PlayStation Vita may boast online gaming on the go but upcoming first party title ModNation Racers: Road Trip will be lacking online multiplayer.

Road Trip's online modes came into question during a live Q&A with producer Vernon Mollette II, from Sony's San Diego studio, who confirmed races with friends would only be possible via the ad-hoc mode requiring all players to be in the same room, and own a copy of the game.

U-turn

Mollette explained that the developer had instead choosen to go with an asynchronous online feature set which includes ghost laps generated from track times, regional leaderboards, and more details yet to be revealed.

It's an odd change of heart considering the PSP version of ModNation Racers supported up to six players online in addition to ad-hoc connectivity.

Maybe it will come in a later update to the game should it be successful.

ModNation Racers: Road Trip will launch alongside the PlayStation Vita on February 22nd.
