In the racing genre, it can be speed that really makes the difference, but even so, strategy has its place. Yes, if you're the kind of person who's ever been knocked out of the lead by a blue shell then you know that for certain, but in MixMob: Racer 1 the items aren't just a way to ruin someone's day, because it's all about the hand you've drawn.
MixMob: Racer 1 looks to offer an eclectic blend of colourful racing and card battler. While your Mixbot navigates the track and collects mixpoints, you'll be able to use cards to wield certain abilities. While the racing aspect itself is simply object dodging the addition of more strategic depth via these cards is certainly an interesting one.
In fact, it's the intensity of the races that MixMob is seeking to emphasise here. While simply dodging obstacles could grow a little bit old, these quick 3-minute races mean that you'll be hard-pressed to find time to reach if you're not careful, let alone become bored.
The only issue I really have with Mixmob comes when you do a bit of digging into it. Go far enough and you find that old chestnut of NFT and blockchain just below the surface. It's a shame as well because I think from concept alone Mixmob: Racer 1 looks to have plenty going for it in terms of gameplay and visuals.
But, as always there's the bad to go with the good. So while it's definitely worth a glance due to the pedigree of the developers on display here, and the gameplay that you can see, it's always worth knowing exactly what you're getting into.
