Mario and Sonic get sporty for Olympic Games on DS
Who will win? There's only one way to find out…
Okay, so it's not quite as surprising as Gerry Adams and Ian Paisley suddenly getting chummy but, nevertheless, the coming together of Mario, Sonic, Luigi, Knuckles, Yoshi, Tails and family for an official cartoon version of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games marks a neat trick on the parts of Nintendo and Sega.
Indeed, the two companies will split the publishing deal for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, with Nintendo releasing it in Japan and Sega taking Europe and North America.
But as for the meat of which events we'll be able to participate in with our favourite characters, there's currently less information on offer – the 100m sprint, some sort of swimming race and table tennis are definitely in, we're assured.
There's no news yet, however, about more exotic events - how about weightlifting, wrestling, trampolining and pole vaulting (though you could argue Tails would have an unfair advantage in the latter given that he wouldn't even need a pole)?
Still, Nintendo and Sega do promise the events all involve innovative control methods so we at least hope to be doing more than just button bashing. The environments, meanwhile, are based on the official venues of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
Currently training hard for its world record attempt, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games won't be released until Christmas. Click 'Track It!' to be kept up with any progress reports.
