A lot of iOS shooters have you flinging a little ship around the screen with your finger blasting aliens, or whatever despicable enemy it is.

The creators of Magenta Arcade took a look at this and saw a better way of realising a top-down shmup on the touchscreen. The solution? Get rid of the ship entirely.

All you have to do, then, is hold your finger on the screen. When you do, bullets are fired from its position and up the screen at the enemies.

That's a pretty cool superpower, you might think, but your finger is your biggest weakness, as well as your biggest strength.

"You have to know when to attack and let your finger open to harm, or hide your finger away by just lifting it off the screen," developer Long Hat House told us.

The studio also said that Magenta Arcade has five levels that use this touch-based idea to bring surprises. You can expect bosses and some little twists that might catch you off-guard.

It's a simple but neat idea so we're looking forward to see what Long Hat House has in store for us.

You'll be able to purchase Magenta Arcade for £1.49 / $1.99 on the App Store from March 20th onwards. Check out its website for more details.
