Mobile gamers have always been spoiled for choice when it comes to base building strategy games; immensely popular titles like Clash of Clans, Boom Beach, and Forge of Empires have satisfied our need to build and destroy for years now. But it has been years since those releases and most players might assume they've seen everything the genre has to offer...until something comes along to challenge that notion. Set to release on October 30th, we’ve taken the time to explore how Mad Rocket: Fog of War aims to do just that.

1
Dark Fog | shrouded battle conditions

Mad Rocket: Fog of War isn’t your average base building game, differing in one fundamental aspect - you’ll need to compensate for an immense shroud of fog covering the map. This makes it difficult for you to predict enemy movements initially, requiring you to literally ‘cover all bases’ during the heat of battle.

Luckily, Mad Rocket: Fog of War gives you plenty of tools to do this. For example, launching rocket missiles in target areas will clear the fog, as will having your ground troops drop safely to the ground and explore. Likewise, the dark fog can be used to your own advantage when used smartly, obscuring your own base from enemy eyes to give you the upper hand.

2
Battle Time | swift, tactical decisions

One of Mad Rocket: Fog of War’s core conceits is Battle Time which, when used efficiently with good strategy, gives you all the breathing room you need to clear the fog and destroy your enemy. All sides start off with a fair share of Battle Time at the beginning of each match – one minute 30 seconds to be exact. However, completing certain actions allows you to accumulate more seconds that give you additional freedoms of movement and attack.

Once reaching level five the game’s multiplayer portion will open up, and you’ll be given the chance to take the fight to other players online.

3
Three attack types | Rocket Missiles, Aircraft, and Troops

Riflemen are your standard troops in the game with well-balanced Attack Damage and Health. From there you have progressively higher ranked types, such as Minion, Laser Girl and Dreadnought. Each class has unique traits to make use of, and all can be sent out via dropship during battle to freely explore. Before they land, however, be warned they’ll be at risk of getting attacked and shot down by enemy missiles. It’s the risk you take, but land them, and they’ll swarm all over.

The two other main modes of attack are rocket missiles and aircrafts. The rockets are crucial to use if you wish to clear out the fog quickly, and they’ll only improve in their effectiveness the further you go in the game.

Aircraft, by comparison, are heavily armed units capable of conducting a range of attacks that standard troops and missiles can't perform. There are various types of plane to choose in the game, including: fighter planes, scout drones, air guardians, bombers, and motherships. The latter is the highest class of plane; a battleship-type aircraft that reigns devastation on enemy bases with its lazer turret. It might not be the fastest, but it can take out almost anything in one shot, making it a real game changer.

4
Elimination of Troop training time | deploy all of your troops freely

Perhaps the most significant aspect of Mad Rocket: Fog of War's gameplay is the absence of troop training time. Any Clash of Clans veteran will be familiar with having to spend time and gems on training troops to bolster their ranks. However, Mad Rocket: Fog of War does away with this base building staple, and for very good reason. Instead of waiting around to upgrade your personnel, you can instead focus on deploying them, strategically selecting where to drop them so that they can freely explore and clear the fog that covers the map. This along with your use of rockets is vital to figuring out the terrain, which will help plan your best route of attack and avoid any nasty surprises.

5
Tile-based system | create unique defence layouts

The way you build up your base in Mad Rocket: Fog of War is all centred around a tile system. When first starting out, base layout will be determined by four pre-set options. From there, the number of tiles you can set will increase the higher the level you are. It won’t be long until you can create complex set ups to further confuse enemies, where you can remove or restore tiles to create base layouts that are deviously creative.
