Take a trip through Irish mythology with the new RPG, Ku: Shroud of the Morrigan

The name Cú Chulainn is one that fans of Japanese roleplaying games will likely recognize.

Over the years, the Irish hero has popped up in a number of Persona games and his spear - the Gáe Bulg - is a familiar fixture in many Final Fantasy titles.

Strangely, however, the mythical Hibernian hero has rarely taken a starring role in a video game himself. The recently released Ku: Shroud of the Morrigan is looking to change that by placing players in control of the young hero, Kú.

Retelling the legend of The Tain, Ku: Shroud of the Morrigan sets its story in a grim, futuristic Ireland that lies devastated after a brutal war and economic collapse leave magic and technology scattered about its countryside.

As Kú sets off into the broken world for the first time, he begins a quest to retrieve a magical treasure from the goddess Morrigan (we're thinking it's some sort of shroud).

Because it's an action RPG, however, his quest will take him across the path of monsters to fight and puzzles to solve. These challenges both ensure that his quest won't be an easy or direct one, but it should be fun for players to figure out.

In addition to the novel presentation of Irish myths, Ku: Shroud of the Morrigan also features a rather impressive art style that mixes high medieval fantasy with steampunk and elements of Bastion in all the right ways.

Ku: Shroud of the Morrigan is still finding its legs on the App Store, but its developers recently released a bug fix for retina display iPads and gave Ku a special sale price of 99c / 69p for a limited time.
