Kartboard Dash offers a homemade-style, fast-paced kart racer for newcomers and veterans alike

One genre I feel we don't touch on as much here on the site is racing. Strategy, fighting and RPGs all work very well on mobile, but racing can often be hit or miss. That doesn't stop developers from trying, however, and coming up with new and innovative takes on the genre such as Kartboard Dash!

Set to hit early access on iOS and Android come August 15th, Kartboard Dash is a homegrown game from Indian developer Zatun, and pitched as a racer built for both newcomers and veterans alike. Aside from its distinctive 'homemade' look thanks to the cardboard environments and characters, Kartboard Dash also looks to prioritise skill-based racing.

While I'm always sceptical of any developer saying that they're set to redefine a genre as storied and well-explored as racing, Kartboard Dash looks to be a pretty complete package if nothing else. And one that could really satisfy kart racing fans disappointed by the recent closure of Mario Kart Tour for mobile.

The stages are colourful and recognisable, as are the characters, and with a focus on free-to-play without it being pay-to-win (always welcome), it seems Zatun are aware what needs attention in the racing genre. Not only that, but cross-platform play is also promised for iOS, Android and PC.

I'm cautiously optimistic about what Kartboard Dash has to offer. India has produced some very promising projects over recent years, yet I can't help but feel there's a lot of ambition in tackling genres such as shooters, which are already quite competitive. Here's hoping that Kartboard Dash finds an audience so Zatun can show us their development chops.
