Move over, Street Fighter - there's a new beat 'em up in town, and he's packing 8-bit pixels.

Although when we say new, we mean very old.

Revolutionary Concepts is bringing the classic arcade fighter Karate Champ to the iPhone.

This faithful remake attempts to keep as true to the original as possible - save for the touchscreen controls, of course.

Wipe on, wipe off

Players karate chop their way through battles of wit and timing via two virtual joysticks: one to move, one to punch and kick. The whole experience resembles an arcade cabinet too with menu buttons but not cigarette burns (we hope).

Play versus AI-controlled opponents, or against a friend via Bluetooth or wi-fi. If you were a fan of the original, this should bring back some pleasant memories.

The below newly-released video shows the fighter in action.

Karate Champ is complete and will be submitted to Apple next week, so hopefully out on the App Store sometime during the next couple of weeks, at the introductory price of $1.99 / €1.59 / £1.19.
