The sequel to cult platformer Icy Tower is due to leap onto iOS devices later this year.

In Icy Tower 2, you control a upbeat lad with a spring in his step called Harold the Homeboy. With the aid of his powerful pins, he must leap up to higher platforms, ascending as far as he can until he misses a perch and falls to his inevitable doom.

The Icy Tower series was originally launched on PC back in 2001. Since then, the game has been played over 40 million times on Mac, Facebook, and iOS.

Judging by the newly released screenshots of Icy Tower 2, Free Lunch Design has really polished up the visuals for the series's second App Store outing. We'll have to wait and see whether the gameplay (specifically, the tilt control system) has received a similar overhaul.

Icy Tower 2 will slide onto the App Store before the year is out.
