Combat details emerge for iPhone and Facebook strategy battler Highborn
Social strategy game for iPhone and iPad will cast a spell on you
Developed by ex-Command & Conquer devs, Highborn is a strategy title coming soon for iPhone, iPad, and Facebook.
Players will be able to battle each other across the two platforms in turn-based combat.
Joseph Hewitt, senior game designer at Jet Set Games, has explained how the battling will work. It takes the ideas behind Nintendo's Advance Wars series and goes all mediaeval on it.
Spell it outReplace the riflemen and tanks with swordsmen and archers and you've got a pretty good idea of what to expect. Units can gain an advantage by hiding in forests or attacking from higher ground.
Magic adds a new element to the fray. Units can discover mysterious Monoliths scattered around the map and harness their power.
These magical powers can be used by attacking players to destructive effect. This means the attacking player has a huge advantage, so positioning your units appropriately is a must.
Certain structures can also be built to your advantage. When in range, Wizard Towers, Keeps, and Castles rain fireballs and arrows down on the enemy.
