Hero Sky: Epic Guild Wars aims to be the mobile successor to Warcraft III [Sponsored]

Innospark has just released Hero Sky: Epic Guild Wars, a strategy RPG game that has lofty goals of being the mobile successor to Warcraft III.

Hero Sky tasks you with collecting an army of powerful, customisable heroes to take into battle against hordes of foes in over 50 dungeons and other PvE modes such as Fever Mode, Quick Battle, and Hell's Gate.

It also offers PvP (Guild Wars are on their way!) and will directly appeal to strategy fans with the ability to use unique battle tactics like the Trojan Horse, which plonks your troops right in the heart of an enemy's camp, and the ability to mix and match your heroes to suit your favourite playstyle.

We spoke to Innospark CEO, Jae Chan Shin, about the differences between Hero Sky and other mobile strategy titles, the challenges of developing for a global market, and his favourite aspects of the game.

What do you think your game offers that you can’t get from other strategy title on the App Store?

"A big difference in Hero Sky, is that we make Heroes available to you from the very beginning of the game so that you can choose, customise, and evolve the heroes that you like. There is a huge collection of heroes and they're all unique.

"You also have regular troops to command as well, and we believe that players will really enjoy finding unique ways to combine heroes and troops into an effective team.

"We feel that Hero Sky is best described as, not only the next generation of hero-based RTSs on mobile, but as a worthy successor to classic games like Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos."

What challenges did you face during development, and how did you overcome them?

"We always planned to launch Hero Sky globally so our biggest challenge, as an independent developer in Korea, was localisation.

"All of the proofreading was done by us and we conducted a USA FGT to receive feedback from Western developers.
"We added heroes to specifically appeal to a Western market, like Napoleon and Zeus, and conducted an A/B test to fit the diverse tastes of global players.

"Hero Sky: Epic Guild Wars has been featured as a best new game in around 150 countries and is getting positive feedback from players globally - our hard work paid off."

Which part of the game are you personally the most proud of and why?

"The real time defense mode, Hell’s Gate. This mode changes up the formula by putting you in the defensive position instead of on the attack - forcing you to protect your fortress against enemies from the underworld.

"It's a common feature in the online game industry but this is the first time it's been brought to mobile and we're really proud of that."

Do you have anything planned in terms of future updates for the game, and if so, can you give us any details of what these might include?

"We're targeting early May for Hero Sky's first major update and I can give you a sneak peak at the three key features that we plan to add, including Guild Wars, new heroes, and a training mode.

"Guild Wars is the real highlight of the update because guilds are a huge part of Hero Sky. We want to let you join forces with other players and share resources, an army, and fight for control of the in-game world together and against other guilds.

"Players can build a stronger community by actively engaging and cooperating with each other. They can chat and even engage in epic Guild Wars together.

"The feature was not included at launch because guilds have to be formed and developed to a certain level before they can participate in Guild Wars. Guild communities are being actively formed right now and when the update arrives, they'll be ready for Guild Wars.

"Four new heroes will be added - two with an Asian focus, and two with a Western one. We want to keep the pool of heroes as diverse as possible.

"Finally, the new Training mode will help players to experiment with strategies in before they challenge other players."

Have you any plans to bring the game to any other mobile platforms, such as Windows Phone?

"Hero Sky: Epic Guild Wars is also available on PC as a Facebook Web Canvas beta version, but we're also planning on expanding to Amazon and Windows Phone."

Hero Sky: Epic Guild Wars is available now on the App Store [download] and Google Play [download].
