Hero of Sparta goes to war on the iPhone
Hot new hack 'n' slash now available
Just a quickie. We've been getting mighty excited over Gameloft's new God of War clone for the iPhone, Hero of Sparta, over the last couple of weeks – with the world's first hands-on preview and gameplay videos – so we thought it's a newsworthy announcement that it's now yours for the taking on the App Store.
Taking on the role of King Argos (ruler of the catalogue people and scourge of the Christmas shopper – not really), you head off into one-man-war with sword in hand and sandal on foot to smite the ruin of Cereberus, the Cyclops, Medusa and a bunch of other thrice-fanged mythological nasties.
All epic chit-chat aside, there's good reason to get excited about Hero of Sparta. With concerns being raised recently about the slipping quality of iPhone game productions, it's great to see a title appear that's clearly been developed as a fully commercial video game – tested, launched and promoted as such and intent on pushing the platform forward as a games console. Whether it turns out to be good or bad, the iPhone needs more of these.
