Even developer Back Flip Studios admits that there's less and less room on the App Store for more line drawing games (build in honour of Firemint's seminal Flight Control), but the team has made a special effort to differentiate this one.

Primarily, Harbor Havoc 3D features three levels of action, which is a new addition to this style of game, requiring you to control helicopters in the sky, boats on the water and submarines in the depths. The lighthouse level also features a fog of war to limit your vision within the rotating light source as you attempt to guide the vehicles to a safe stop.

To help bring Harbor Havoc 3D to life, Back Flip recruited a new artist from Midway Games, and initially rendered the whole thing in 3D, then assembled it with a 'fixed camera' in place to give the multi-layered game the depth of perception it requires.

Harbor Havoc 3D is to be submitted to Apple later this week, but in the meantime you can check out the gameplay video below (complete with a cheesy soundtrack from a Styx tribute band, we're told).

To be honest, you can never have too many line drawing games, so we're really looking forward to this one and will be keeping a scrutinising eye on it.

Spanner Spencer
Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
