Suda51 and Yasumi Matsuno to collaborate on Level 5's 4-in-1 3DS title Guild 01
Drawing the big names
The tag of 'video game auteur' is not something one applies lightly, given the industry is traditionally built on recognised team efforts.
However there are some individuals for whom the term rests comfortably.
In Japan, two people often branded as such are Suda 51 - of cult console hits Killer 7 and No More Heroes - and Yasumi Matsuno, famed for his involvement as producer on Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy XII and the more recent PSP re-make of Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together.
Along with Yoot Saito of The Tower and Japanese comedian Yoshiyuki Hirai, said forces are joining together to collaborate on Level 5's upcoming four-in-one games package for the 3DS.
Big names comethThe package, dubbed Guild 01, will be made up of Suda51's robot shooter Kaiho Shojo and Matsuno's Crimson Shroud, a fantasy RPG.
Comedian Hirai's release Rental Bukiya de Omasse sounds like the most innovative on offer, putting gamers in the post of RPG shop owner.
Meanwhile, Yoot Saito's contribution Air Porter will take the form of an airport simulator.
For its part, Nintendo will be hoping the ability to attract big names like Suda51 and Matsuno will help boost its handheld's ailing sales figures.
The firm also recently unveiled an extended slide pad peripheral, adding extra flexibility to the console's controls.
