Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars HD hits iPad in the UK at midnight

Rockstar’s crime epic Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars has made its latest platform leap. This time, the sprawling sandbox game is available on Apple’s lovely tablet.

The game first appeared on DS, jumped to PSP, and took a price cut for the iPhone before finally reaching iPad.

You play as Huang Lee, a Chinese gangster who ends up in Liberty City after his father’s murder. He’s given the simple mission of delivering his father’s sword to his Uncle Kenny, but his life spirals into a world of fast cars and even faster bullets when the sword is nicked.

The game features oodles of missions and lots of mini-games, from touchscreen based hot-writing sims to giant, strategic drug running meta-games.

Everything has been enhanced for the iPad’s 1024x768 resolution, with higher polygon count vehicles and building models, and enhanced lighting and explosion effects. It also features new control schemes for tablet play.

Chinatown Wars HD is available for our New Zealand buddies right now, which means it will hit the UK App Store at midnight, for £5.99 / $9.99 / €7.99.
