Modding site details how to customise in-game soundtrack on Grand Theft Auto 3 for iOS and Android

The Grand Theft Auto series has always been a source of inspiration for the modding community.

Whether these modders are adding near-photo-realistic skins to Grand Theft Auto IV, or sticking a time-travelling DeLorean in the middle of Vice City, they just can't resist the possibilities afforded to them by Rockstar's endlessly tweakable open-world milieux.

So, within seconds (slight exaggeration, perhaps - Ed) of going live on the App Store and Android Market, Grand Theft Auto 3 had been hacked, fiddled with, and generally violated by some clever, clever tinkerers.

Fast forward one month, and a dedicated modding website for Grand Theft Auto 3 has sprung up that gives similarly minded coders a place to swap and share their latest mobile customisations.

Building better worlds

Though the site is only days old, it already has a tutorial detailing how to customise the in-game soundtrack using your own MP3s.

It also contains details on code that will make cars drive up walls. I guess not all mods are created equal.

If users - and Rockstar itself - embrace this new community, there could be a whole host of cool / useful / bonkers modifications for Grand Theft Auto 3 owners to muck about with over the coming months.

Now: where did I leave the keys to my DeLorean…
