Grand Theft Auto 3 PC mods run on Android and iOS editions

Modders have already started working their magic on the Android and iOS versions of Grand Theft Auto 3 by introducing new cars, building textures, and coke vending machines into their Liberty City experience.

It appears that the mobile version shares the same file structure as the 2001 PC version, meaning that many of the existing PC mods are compatible with the mobile editions.

Android users can mod their game by fiddling around with the folders located on their SD cards. Rather handily, DroidGamers has put together a list of working mods and guides.

Those wanting to pimp their iOS ride can do so without jailbreaking their devices, by the way, thanks to Pocket Gamer's detailed guide.

Under the hood

A new app has also surfaced which allows struggling Grand Theft Auto 3 players on Android devices to easily tweak the game's visual performance.

Created by a coder over at the XDA developers forums, the app allows players to fine-tune and boost the game's performance with the following selection of options:

  • Shadows: On/Off
  • Lighting: On/Off
  • Resolution: High/Low
  • Rendering Distance: 18 Steps
  • Blur: On/Off (may only work on specific devices, most likely Tegra 2/3)
