Gran Saga to close its doors next month

The sun sets on yet another game

Gran Saga to close its doors next month
  • Grand Saga is closing down on April 30th
  • In-app purchases have already been disabled
  • You can ask for refunds for items you may have purchased

NPIXEL has announced that Gran Saga is officially shutting down, marking the end of its short-lived international run. The developers have announced that service will officially terminate on April 30th, 2025, with IAPs and downloads already disabled.

While Gran Saga initially launched in Japan in 2021 to strong success, its global version only debuted in November 2024, meaning it barely lasted six months before the decision was made to shut it down.

The reason behind the closure seems to be financial instability and an inability to maintain a sustainable service. While Gran Saga did impress initially, it struggled to gain a foothold in the highly competitive global market.

The genre is packed with established games that have already locked in dedicated player bases, making it incredibly difficult for new entries to thrive unless they bring something truly groundbreaking to the table. Despite its early success in Japan, that momentum didn’t carry over internationally, leading to an early exit.

This is just the latest in a growing trend of gacha RPGs shutting down. Last month, I covered the closure of My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero, and it wasn’t the only one. Several others have also folded under the weight of an oversaturated market. With so many options available, people tend to stick with what they know, making it tough for new or niche games to survive long-term.

For those who made any purchases recently and would like a refund, you will have until May 30th to submit an inquiry. Of course, it may not be possible if you’ve already used your purchases or other store circumstances.

If you were one of the players who spent time in Ethprozen, this is a tough farewell, but unfortunately, it’s becoming all too common in the mobile scene.
