Glu's Get Cookin' to feature accelerometer control
So you can toss to your heart's content
Glu's Get Cookin' has been on our radar for quite a while. It's a game in which you have to "create cuisine by perfecting a wide variety of methods, ingredients, seasonings and recipes". That's right, like the DS game Cooking Mama. Just like it.
Except not quite, it seems, because at yesterday's JavaOne conference in San Francisco Glu unveiled a rather neat twist.
If you own one of the growing number of Sony Ericsson handsets that utilise motion-sensing technology – the W910i, for example – you'll be able to use physical gestures as well as boring old button presses to prepare your food. These accelerometer-powered gestures include such feats as flipping a steak on the grill.
Want some science? "Get Cookin' will utilize the JSR 256 API motion sensor found inside the W910i and several other new Sony Ericsson devices."
Glu isn't the only developer to adopt motion-sensing early, with both EA Mobile and I-play offering up accelerometer-controlled games in recent months. Get Cookin' looks like an excellent application of the technology, though, and we're looking forward to seeing how it works. You could even say our mouths our watering.
The game's due out in July.
