Garfield movie tie-in released in US and headed our way. What did you expect?

Get a little pussy on your mobile

Mobile game development is a globalised business. Take, for instance, Garfield 2: Royal Adventure.

Currently being rolled out to coincide with the release of the new Garfield movie, it was developed by Nostromo, a Prague-based mobile game developer, and has just been released in the US for 250 handsets. And as the film is released in South America, Europe, Asia and the rest of the world over summer, the game will follow alongside, like a roadie touring the globe with the Stones, only in the guise of a sardonic ginger cat.

But enough thinly-stretched economics, what of the game? Well, Garfield 2: Royal Adventure is a sequel to the original Garfield game. We've never played it. Nostromo assures us it was a big hit. It also says the new game features two levels of difficulty, and sees Garfield becoming the owner of a castle that he has to clean-up of monsters.

The game apparently has a number of scenes that are not featured in the film – what that means in the context of a two-inch handset screen remains to be seen.

"This is a very child-friendly game, which is a new area for us but one we are very pleased to be involved in," said Nostromo's Petr Litos. "It is deliberately non-violent – instead of fighting, Garfield gets involved in 'boo battles' to frighten off the monsters."

So there you go. You play a pussy and scare away foes by shouting 'boo'. Resident Evil it ain't.

Still Nostromo has something coming for older gamers too. "Later this year we will release SimBabe2, which is a sequel to our hugely successful SimBabe game," Litos said, confiding that, "We are very excited about the prospects for this game."

There, now everyone who read our headline should be happy…
