While it may be heating up out in the real world, on mobile things are getting a bit chilly. And that's because Lords Mobile developer IGG is set to release its newest title with Frozen War! Pre-registration is now open, so why don't we dig into what this upcoming iOS and Android release has to offer?
Now, mechanically speaking what we've seen of Frozen War in its previews looks to be a grab-bag of what's popular on mobile at the moment. Frozen world setting? Check. 4X strategy? Check. Collectible heroes and minigames? Oh, you'd better believe that's a check. Yes, if you've seen it in a pre-roll advert it's likely integrated into Frozen War.
Not to say any of this is bad, but it does make it difficult to decide what I think of Frozen War. Whether or not this might be interesting as an action-packed take on the Frostpunk format, or if it's just going to be a bit unfocused. Lords Mobile is definitely a bit of a Marmite release, so Frozen War I can't necessarily see being a crowd-pleaser. This is a shame because Frostpunk Mobile struggled to maintain the same sense of deadliness as its mainline predecessor, so I could see there is a prominent niche for a more gamified and action-focused winter survival-type strategy game.
