Storm the Normandy beaches in Glu's freemium shooter Frontline Commando: D-Day

Glu is preparing to launch another attack on the iOS and Android app stores via upcoming shooter sequel Frontline Commando: D-Day.

As you might expect from the new game's moniker, Glu has traded the modern-day setting of Frontline Commando: D-Day's predecessor for the ever-popular backdrop of World War II.

Though the setting might be different in Frontline Commando: D-Day, the franchise's third-person mechanics remain intact.

As we found out in our Frontline Commando review, though, this series has more in common with your garden-variety gallery shooter than with Gears of War.

Like in the first game, you are required in Frontline Commando: D-Day to direct a soldier between different destructible covering positions, pausing intermittently to pop up and blast enemy soldiers.

You will have to fight through 145 missions over the course of the campaign, travelling between iconic historical locations like Juno and Omaha Beach.

These locations will not only be filled with German soldiers, but will also be riddled with obstacles like barriers and mines.

Though we weren't huge fans of Frontline Commando's repetitive combat and pay-to-win IAPs, the game garnered millions of downloads on iOS and Android.

If you want to see what the sequel has to offer, you need only wait a couple of weeks.
