Yuji Naka's Prope releases totally charming iOS arcade runner FlickPig
Stacking fast-moving porkers
You might have forgotten about Yuji Naka, but the creator of Sonic hasn't forgotten about you.
Now ex-Sega with his new studio Prope, its latest game is a delightful slice of arcade action.
Called FlickPig, it's a smart level-based runner that has three pigs - red, blue, and yellow - running into the screen.
To move them across the different paths - either to avoid obstacles or collect items - you flick a pig to another path, hence the name.
Curly tail hotshotsThe clever bit, however, is you can stack pigs on top of each other, providing another dimension in terms of avoidance and collecting.
For example, you'll sometimes have to stack them together because some of the paths are blocked by walls, or because the gold coins, bananas, or other collectibles are stacked into the sky. Other times, you'll have to unstack them quickly for the reverse reasons.
As with these games, you'll need to collect a certain amount of items in order to unlock the next level. There are 100 in total to play and replay through. And adding further variation are fences, which stop you flicking pigs between paths, or chillies, which speed up their little piggy legs.
What really makes the game so much fun, though, are the excellent graphics - slightly cel-shaded - and the wacky piano-centric audio. Leaderboards and achievements are supported through Game Center.
FlickPig is out now for iPad and iPhone, priced 69p / 99c / €0.79.
