If you want to pick the best class in Flame of Valhalla, that's no easy feat. To make things simple, all the classes are good - it all depends on your play style and whether or not you play with friends or solo.

In this article, I am going to explain all that you need to know so you can pick the best class for you, and maybe get an idea of what the best overall class would be in the game (just in case you are playing the game solo).

Each class has 3 specialisations

To kick things off, you need to know that each of the classes has 3 sub-classes (specialisations). Each one will focus on a specific skill set and will have different skills. Although they all belong to the same class, each subclass is more tailored towards something - be it damage, support, crowd control or defense.

Whenever you're picking a class for the first time, you only have access to the first skill set. This will change once you activate Resurrection, which is when you start gaining access to the skills from one of those 3 skill trees.

Unlike in other games, you don't get to pick a specific sub-class. You choose it by picking its skills, and by farming the Skill Scroll Remnants to level up said skills.

Which is the best class in Flame of Valhalla?

I am going to rank each of the classes here, so you can get a better idea of which one to pick if it's your first time playing the game.
Tier Class
S Knight, Mage, Astrologer
A Dragon Rider
B Barbarian, Ranger

Keep in mind these rankings could differ from person to person. If you are someone who can knock it out of the park as a Ranger, it doesn't mean the class is bad - it only means the player is that good.

Each player could be good or not-so-good playing a specific class, and it all depends on what you like to play, and how well you can execute that class' playstyle.

So without further ado, let's explore each class in a little bit more detail on the following pages.

Knight  |  Mage  |  Astrologer

Barbarian  |  Ranger  |  Dragon Rider

Knight

Knight character very manly man

The Knights are your typical melee damage dealers and tanks. This class has a fairly easy playstyle, and it is pretty fun too. For a complete beginner who likes to head into battle head-first, this is a great class, since you can later specialise in a more damage-focused build, or take a more "tanky" approach.

Fury Warrior

The Fury Warrior is the sub-class that specialises in damage and agility, making it an ideal class for those who like melee damage without sacrificing a lot of survivability.

Shield Vanguard

The Shield Vanguard is pretty self-explanatory. It focuses on shields, and has a lot of control abilities, which makes it a pretty good class for PvP.

Holy Knight

As a Holy Knight, you are the purest of tanks. This spec gives you additional defensive stats and skills, and if you like being an unkillable beast, this is the class for you.

2
Mage

Mages are pretty universal in most games - as you can expect, they have AoE skills and control abilities, and depending on which sub-class you want to focus on, you can have a wide range of skills to make the Mage more fun. This class is extremely popular since their AoE skills prove useful more often than not, but to top it all off, their control abilities are what makes them shine in PvP.

Ice Mage

The Ice Mage is your classical mage - they have decent overall stats, and they have a good balance between AoE skills and control abilities, while not sacrificing a lot of their defensiveness.

Mad Arcanist

The Mad Arcanists are the more "aggressive" Mages. This specialisation gives you a lot more attack and agility, attack and control, but it takes away some of those defensive stats, making you more vulnerable. The key here is positioning, and avoiding taking as much damage as possible.

Elemental Emissary

The Elemental Emissary is the equivalent of a "tank mage". While it doesn't compare with the Holy Knight, it has decent defense and a lot more offensive skills, allowing you to play the class more aggressively, and not worry about taking a hit or two.

3
Astrologer

The Astrologer is a class that can offer support, damage, heals, and various other perks that you would see from a support class. Don't worry though, it can also take a more damage-focused route. It is not the easiest class to play, but it can be pretty fun. This is the one I picked, and I couldn't be happier. Depending on the specialisation you pick, you can either go for a more supportive approach, or a more damage-focused one.

Witch of Icemoon

This specialisation offers a lot of control, while not sacrificing the damage output. It is great for PvP and PvE alike, and it has a very consistent damage rotation.

Fire Dancer

The Fire Dancer takes a more damage-focused approach, using skills that deal a lot of Fire AoE damage. It is a great choice if you would like to play a fire mage.

Starlight Priest

This is the class you pick if you want to go for a tanky Astrologer, with lots of sustain and a decent amount of damage (not as high as the previous two specs though).

4
Barbarian

If you like dual weapons, the Barbarian is your class. This is more like a warrior, but it can also be quite tanky. It is quite a beginner-friendly class, and if you like their melee play style, it could very well be your go-to class. The Barbarian has great attack and sustain, decent defense, and quite okay control. You can't really go wrong playing it if you like a more Viking approach.

Crimson Berserker

The Crimson Berserker is focused on control more than anything, as well as operation. It is a good choice for beginners, since it offers a little bit of everything, while not sacrificing damage or defense.

Winter's Edge

As a Winter's Edge Barbarian, you have a lot of control. It has decent attack and agility too, making it a good pick if you like PvP.

Radiant Gladiator

The Radiant Gladiator is the more "tanky" Barbarian. With this sub-class you have a little bit of everything, but also slightly higher defenses than with the previous ones. If you want to play a tank who is more focused on damage and are not a fan of the Holy Knight, the Radiant Gladiator should do.

5
Dragon Rider

The Dragon Rider is a fun class for those who like a pure warrior class. It is okay for beginners, but even better for those experienced with the play style. It has melee to mid range, and they have a neat balance between defense and attack, making them good for pretty much any content you want to play.

Thunder Warrior

The Thunder Warriors are mainly focused on attack and agility, but their defenses are decent. They don't have a lot of control, so you need to be wary of your positioning.

Red Dragon Rider

The Red Dragon Rider is a sub-class that has good defense and control, but not as much attack as the Thunder Warrior. It is a good choice if you play with a friend, and want to play a class with control and tankiness.

Swift Lancer

This is where things get fun. The Swift Lancer has very good attack and decent defense, while also being quite agile and having some control. It is the best balance out of all of them, and an ideal choice if you want to go for this class.

6
Ranger

The Ranger or Archer class is a damage-focused class, that relies on their high range to take down enemies. They are not that good at close-combat, since their defense and HP and pretty low by default. As a new player, this class is not exactly ideal, since positioning is crucial, and you cannot afford to take unnecessary hits in both PvE and PvP.

Quill Ranger

The Quill Ranger is your classic Ranger. It has a good balance between Attack, Agility, Operation and Control, and they have a very front-to-back playstyle. That means, you focus on the target in front of you, and try not to get any hits. It's a reliable class and sub-class, if you like classic Ranger playstyle.

Hurricane Archer

This class has a lot more crowd control than the Quill Ranger, and it is a fun class to play. It is great for PvP, since control is a trait most useful there, but it can work quite okay in PvE too.

Eagle-Eyed Hunter

This sub-class is the slightly more tanky Ranger. It has higher attack and defense than the others, but it lacks the control you would get from the other specialisations. It is fun to play, and if I were to pick one, this would be mine.
