From developer PID Games and ginTronic, a brand new 2D metroidvania titled Fireball Wizard is due to launch on mobile and Steam alike very soon. This new adventure sees you take on the role of the titular Fireball Wizard as you venture through dangerous places to save the lands of Wizardonia from an ancient evil threat.

Utilising a lovely pixel 2D art style, Fireball Wizard presents itself in a way that harkens back to the era of old 2D platformers like Castlevania or Contra. Even the more dangerous enemies are realised in a beautifully retro way that gives the game a charming graphical style, showing off its dedication to not taking itself too seriously.

Gameplay-wise, this one has a lot of those metroidvania elements, but rather than the progression loops of those sorts of games, instead, you can look forward to 40 different levels to clear with a more linear form of progressing forwards. Each level is hand-crafted, and you’ll have to use your fire-throwing abilities to defeat a variety of enemies, all the while platforming over dangerous acid pits and spike traps and the like.

There are incentives to do so beyond simply just beating the game too, as you can also unlock 9 different skins for your wizard, dressing him up in fun new ways. All-in-all, it’s a relatively casual game, but one that does up in difficulty pretty hard once you start digging your way through all the games. And we also certainly can’t forget the fun of discovering all the secrets, of which there are over 40 throughout the entire game.

So, whether you're a fan of 2D platforming, metroidvanias, or retro games from the NES era, Fireball Wizard might be the one for you. If you want to check it out yourself, you can pre-register for the game at either of the links below!
