DIFFERENT TYPES OF TEAMS IN FFVII EVER CRISIS

Now, since we are talking about team compositions, I believe it’s equally important to know about the different types of teams you can build in the game. FFVII Ever Crisis boasts a variety of teams, and no such thing as “one team for all” exists. Each team has their own pros and cons that need to be weighed against one another to come to a conclusion. Check out the different types of popular teams that we’ve scouted on our quest to find the best of them all:

  • Balanced Teams: As the name itself might give away, these team comps are quite balanced in all aspects. You can expect them to perform on a normal average in most of the content since they comprise a healthy mix of Attackers, Defenders, Supporters, and Healers. These teams fit in quite well; however, they tend to get a bit too boring at times.
  • Themed Teams: A bit of a sadist's haven, these teams are limited to a particular element, faction, or class of characters. They are not as popular as other mainstream teams, but they do exist.
  • Solo Content Teams: Such teams are not easy to digest, even for the most experienced players out there. They work on the basic notion of having only 1 character. So, for example, you can have all versions of Sephiroth in a team.
  • Offensive Teams: It doesn’t take a genius to guess what these teams are specializing in. These comps are simple, effective, and aimed to deal the highest amount of raw damage to enemies.
  • Turtle/Defensive Teams: Supposedly a counter to highly offensive teams, the members of turtle teams are tanky and sustain-oriented. They like to be off-beat and can shine in the long run.
  • Buff/Debuff Teams: FFVII Ever Crisis has a host of interesting characters that can be used in pragmatic ways, even though all of them are specialized buffers and debuffers that are kind of meta in their own right. A team composition of only buffers/debuffs can be your enemy's worst nightmare - until the enemy brings a cleanser and your entire team falls apart.

This marks the end of our introduction into the lofty world of team-building that goes around in FFVII Ever Crisis. Let’s proceed to the actual meta teams that are viable in multiple game modes.

1
FULL OFFENSIVE TEAM

  • Zack
  • Cloud
  • Aerith

The core objective of building a full offensive team is to make sure your enemies are smacked every time they try to take a turn. You’re going to be using the best damage dealers in the game: Zack and Cloud. Both of these characters excel at the roles they need to fulfil. Zack is considered to be a great single-target nuker thanks to his highly potent attack skills.

Cloud, on the other hand, is the titular boss killer that will carry you through different parts of the early-mid game. Heck, he’s even relevant in the end game as many of the top-tier players clearing dungeons are still using him as their primary DPS.

Aerith comes out to be the only sustain you’re going to have in this team. Now, to make this more of a challenge, you can go ahead and replace Aerith with someone like Barret for extra DPS, but we would not recommend it as it simply doesn’t make sense to have that much damage but no sustain. In reality, your entire team will be wiped out in a few turns. Aerith ensures that Zack and Cloud are able to do their own thing as she can provide tons of heals and crucial buffs such as barrier and defence up.

Strategically choosing main weapons and sub-weapons is going to be the key to dealing maximum damage. Here are my personal weapon recommendations regarding this team:

  • Zack: Falchion (Main Weapon), and Zweihander (Secondary Weapon)
  • Cloud: Murasume (Main Weapon), and Maritime Sword (Secondary Weapon)
  • Aerith: Fairy Tale (Main Weapon), and Sun Umbrella (Secondary Weapon)

2
FULL DEFENSIVE TEAM

  • Zack
  • Cloud
  • Aerith

Surprised that the characters remain the same? Well, don’t be as each of them is at the top of the meta lists due to their powerful weapon and sub-weapon options that help them secure any role in a team. Zack can stand his ground against the toughest of enemies, making him a great choice to serve you as the titular tank in the team.

The goal of this team is to get smacked as much as possible but still be able to hold their ground by mixing healing, buffing, and defensive stats in the equation. Eventually, your characters will also get the chance to move, and they will slowly chip away at the enemy’s health.

This type of team composition is more recommended for the few that have stumbled upon defensive/healing-type weapons You would need a very good combination of healing and buffing augmentation of sub-weapons to get this type of team working.

Here are my personal weapon recommendations regarding this team:

  • Zack: Enhance Sword (Main Weapon), and Defender (Secondary Weapon)
  • Cloud: Murasume (Main Weapon), and Crystal Sword (Secondary Weapon)
  • Aerith: Fairy Tale (Main Weapon), and Mythril Rod (Secondary Weapon)

3
THE BALANCED TEAM

  • Barret
  • Cloud
  • Aerith

The Balanced team, as the name itself might suggest, is supposed to be equally offensive and defensive. In fact, you can experiment with it yourself by adding some debuffers like Tifa instead of Barrett in the mix if you want to challenge yourself. But that’s just food for thought. In actuality, Barret with his Assault Gun is just a flat-out better AOE buffer that can increase the defence of allies as well as supply them with some healing. What he lacks is damage, but don’t worry - our good friend Cloud has got that front covered.

Cloud has already established himself as the best single-target damage dealer in the game, especially for bosses due to his enemy HP-scaling combos. Aerith, the best healer of the game, has a lot to carry on her shoulders in this team. I might have oversold Barret’s defensive capabilities, as he has the highest HP in the game, but the rest of his vital stats lack quite a lot. You can expect Aerith to do the majority of the healing, buffing, and tanking.

Nonetheless, this team can carry you through the majority of the content such as raids, story mode, farming stages, and those pesky boss fights that more than always ask for long battles.
Here are my personal weapon recommendations regarding this team:

  • Barret: Assault Gun (Main Weapon), and Heavy Vulcan (Secondary Weapon)
  • Cloud: Murasume (Main Weapon), and Crystal Sword (Secondary Weapon)
  • Aerith: Fairy Tale (Main Weapon), and Mythril Rod (Secondary Weapon)

Of course, some players will prefer to create their own teams, and we have something that can be of use. Our FFVII Ever Crisis tier list sorts every character by their respective power in the game. Now, we're not saying that you have to use the top ones to create your own composition, but it's better to have an outline.
