Because PSP’s Final Fantasy Agito XIII has little to do with the Fabula Nova Crystallis series and big boy console RPG FFXIII, it’s had a name change.

The portable adventure is now called Final Fantasy Type-0, Square Enix has confirmed.

We also now know that the game is so massive that it will come on two UMDs. That much space is needed for the game’s 30 fully-voiced characters (complete with big-name talent, according to director Hajime Tabata), a single player campaign and multiplayer features.

From our earlier looks at the game, we know it has a more action-orientated battle system, like Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, but will also make use of the active time battle system and let you choose between multiple characters. And in turn, each of the 12 heroes will have their own summon to turn the tables in battle.

The only location guaranteed the game so far is Japan, which will be receiving Type-0 this summer.

It won’t be the last you’ll see of this new Final Fantasy sub-series, if some recently filed trademarks are any indication. Alongside a registration for Type-0, the publisher also secured Type-1, Type-2 and Type-3. Siliconera
