Digital makeover planned

Laughing Jackal promises new combat, luck and test mechanics for PSP Minis version of Fighting Fantasy: Talisman of Death

If, like me, you thought the PSP Minis was now a platform of rolling tumbleweed and bitter regrets, you'd be overly cynical and wrong.

For some brave souls continue to support Sony's indie channel for PSP and PS3, including UK outfit Laughing Jackal.

It's announced it's been working on Fighting Fantasy: Talisman of Death, a game based on one of the roleplaying gamebooks from the 1980s. Talisman of Death was notable for being the first book not written by series originators Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone.

Beyond the roll

We've seen a small resurgent in the Fighting Fantasy recently with Canadian publisher Big Blue Bubble releasing some of them on iOS, but Laughing Jackal promises its game will be more than the standard issue digital version.

For one thing, in addition to the standard dice combat system, it will feature a new tile-based alternative. Other features include a log book so you can see your previous journeys, preventing any unnecessary backtracking.

There will also be new character creation, luck and skill test systems, plus a biography section, providing inside information on the book's characters, items and weapons.

There's no concrete news on release date or price yet, but we'd expect Fighting Fantasy: Talisman of Death to be available sometime during the summer.
