Subatomic's highly anticipated sequel to its Pocket Gamer Bronze Award-winning Fieldrunners arrives of the App Store July 19th.

After last minute tweaking forced Fieldrunners 2 to miss its proposed June release window, the defining tower defence title of its generation will assuredly roll out on Thursday.

Unfortunately, this release version will only be compatible with iPhones.

The iPad version is still pending, and will likely be released as a separate game instead of a universal app.

Back to the field

In addition to the classic tower defence gameplay of its 4-year-old predecessor, Fieldrunners 2 will feature puzzle and sudden death maps adding new content and gameplay for fans of the original.

These new modes make Fieldrunners 2 suited to shorter play sessions, although longer levels are still present. Further, players will now need to take geographical features into consideration as enemy soldiers can now duck into tunnels or scuttle over hills.

Fans and purists of the original Fieldrunners will be happy to read that Fieldrunners 2 has managed to avoid the trend of in-app purchases and will be released a complete game without IAP.
