Tetris Online brings hit puzzler Feevo HD to iPad

How do you follow up the best puzzle game ever made?

Tetris Online, Inc. has been trying to figure that out for the past quarter century. The studio's new iPad title Feevo HD originally proved popular online by borrowing heavily from yet another hit: Bejeweled.

Feevo HD attempts to take the match-three genre to the next level by making it, well, match-four, on a ten-by-ten grid.

Each level is packed with Lucky Charms-like icons, like spades and diamonds. Sliding and connecting four matching items eliminates them from the board. Unlike other games, the items don’t have to make a straight line, so matching is much easier.

Matching four or more items creates power stars that can be used at the right time. For instance, one star eliminates a particular type of icon and can help you rack up serious points.

That’s just the basic gameplay of Feevo HD. There's also a Fever mode, which increases the multiple of points; items that you can purchase between levels; and several other intricacies.

Feevo HD takes the Bejeweled concept and turns it into one of those Las Vegas sensory overload experiences. We suspect that casual gamers will be overwhelmed by the seemingly overcomplicated gameplay. In that sense, Feevo HD is both inspired by Bejeweled and the very opposite of it.

Feevo HD is fully integrated into Game Center and has a live leaderboard so you can immediately compare your current score to people around the world. Feevo gained a following online, so the iPad version may be perfect for those original fans.

It's out now for £1.79/$2.99.
