Top 10 uses for your now obsolete HP TouchPad
|

If you've visited any technology or gaming related websites over the past couple of weeks, you'll have probably read about the demise of HP's TouchPad tablet.

Some of you might have even grabbed the heavily discounted device during its subsequent sale, where the 16GB model cost just £89/$99, and the 32GB model could be pocketed for a cool £115/$149.

So you're now the proud (possibly) owner of an obsolete tablet, which means you're probably wondering just what the hell you can do with it.

Luckily, the resourceful minds at Pocket Gamer Towers have come together to devise ten ways you can still put your sorry tablet to good use.

These are all serious - we promise - so read on.

As a gaming machine

Okay, so the TouchPad can't compete with iOS or even Android when it comes to the number of games available to play, but there are still a few gems to wile away the hours.

Our very own features editor Mark Brown recently compiled a list of the top ten games to play on your cut-price HP TouchPad, which included the likes of Angry Birds, Need for Speed Undercover, more Angry Birds, and the rather excellent Beyond Ynth.

As a jukebox

Everybody loves a good tune (and a dance), so why wouldn't you want to turn your HP TouchPad into a portable jukebox?

If you're like us here at Pocket Gamer you'll probably have a bustling iTunes library full to brimming with musical goodness, and you can sync all of it straight to your HP TouchPad.

How? Well, this guide will explain that. Follow the steps and you'll soon be screaming into your mirror with your mic-esque hairbrush in hand.

As a social media hub

We all love updating our Facebook status to tell our friends that we're eating lunch, using Foursquare to show people exactly where we're eating it, and hopping over to Twitter to tweet a picture of said meal.

You'll be pleased to read, then, that you can do all of that and more on your brand new (possibly) but still obsolete (definitely) TouchPad.

And don't forget to tell your friends about Pocket Gamer while you're there.

As a portal into the world of news

Do you enjoy heading out onto the cold and wet streets every morning to pick up the daily newspaper? We don't.

So you should sit back, relax with a cuppa, and check out the news on your handy TouchPad.

Thanks to the invention of the internet you can access stories from a wide variety of sources, watch videos of the latest breaking news, tap into your favourite video games website, and have a look at your footy team's freshest signings.

As a way to stay in touch

HP's TouchPad comes packing an integrated webcam and a digital microphone, meaning you can video conference with your friends, family, enemies, or whoever else you see fit.

And it's not just TouchPad to TouchPad.

Thanks to Skype, you can call one of your buddies and display your mug on his very magical iPad 2.

As a digital photo frame

The TouchPad's 9.7-inch display makes it perfect for displaying snaps of your kids, pictures of your latest trip to Venice, and photos of your loveable pets.

Find a nice stand for it, find your favourite photo, and display it proudly on your mantelpiece.

Okay, so it's not the cheapest digital photo frame available, but at £89 it's not the most expensive either.

As an expensive mirror

Using the TouchPad as a mirror would probably make the tablet the most expensive item that you've ever bought purely for its reflective surface.

However, if you enjoy bopping along in the mirror to some sweet tracks (see the jukebox entry above) you've got yourself the perfect portable dance studio.

Probably best not to do it at the bus stop, though.

As a really expensive Frisbee

It would sort of work.

As a perfect conversation starter

Picture the scene: you're standing in a crowded bar and there's a pretty woman/man standing across from you holding the now-abandoned TouchPad.

You slowly walk over and approach him/her and say, "I see you've got one of those defunct TouchPads."

Drinks are shared, numbers are swapped, and the rest is history.

As a means of ordering another tablet

So you're upset that the full-priced tablet you bought back in the day (a month ago) is obsolete, or you snapped it up at the bargain price but you're so far unimpressed. What can you do?

Well, you can fire up the TouchPad's browser, direct it to reputable online retailer such as Apple.com, and order yourself a brand new (and still very much in businesses) tablet of your choosing.

That's money well spent.
