Rainbows, ninjas and cricket keep the tower defence clones at bay this week

The App Stork: Introducing Silent Swords, Somersault and Little Master Cricket
|

Sport, swords and somersaults are the order of the day in this week’s App Stork. It’s actually been slightly quieter in the iPhone and iPod touch developer news section of the forums over the last week, at least in terms of new games.

But many of the developers that have posted about their games in the weeks gone by are now actively using our forums as a place to announce new competitions, updates and other developments about their games, so there’s more reason than ever to make it one of your online iPhone haunts.

And remember, there’s no app left behind with the App Stork. We try to catch every app that appears in the forums so that we can post a link to it at the bottom of this here feature.

All you need to do to be included is post about your game in the forum, adding as many links to pictures, videos and the App Store as you like. Can you think of a good reason not to post? Thought not.

Little Master Cricket - Bennett Foddy

There are doubtless plenty of you out there keen to relive the recent glories of The Ashes, and though Little Master Cricket won’t allow full-on match cricket, you can certainly bat for all you’re worth.

Making use of a smart little ragdoll physics batter you can use the touchscreen to bat a barrage of balls into point scoring sections at the other end of the screen. It’s simple but effective cricket action and it costs less than a pound. What are you waiting for?

Silent Swords - Oniric Games
The App Store may have plenty of zombies, but it’s a bit undersubscribed in the ninjas department. As it is in the stealth realm, making Silent Swords a welcome effort from Oniric Games. You play as a little black suited Ninja who has to make it past an army of goonish sentries, sneaking and performing all manner of stealth kills.

The touchscreen controls look like fun and the lighting effects are very pretty indeed. The game isn’t out yet but this here video should whet your appetite for some shadowy assassin action.

Somersault - Enter-Brain-Ment
Somersault is already an award winning Mac and PC game, so its inevitable arrival on the iPhone is worth getting excited about. Featuring a devilishly original play mechanic in which you draw rainbows to propel the main character around a pretty, pseudo 3D world, Somersault is a platformer that breaks all the rules.

Berlin-based developer Enter-Brain-Ment is currently running a competition to name the main character of the game. The winner will get a mention in the game’s credits, a free copy of the Mac or PC version, and the opportunity to take part in the iPhone version’s beta testing process.

This is a game that could really shine on Apple’s handheld, so for any budding creatives out there it’s well worth getting involved. Check out the video below to see what all the fuss is about.
