Fire Balls 3D is the latest game to benefit from that Voodoo magic. It's stormed to the top of the iTunes charts in both the UK and the US.

If you're someone who hasn't played the game before, it's kind of a super-casual twist on the shooter. Kind of.

There's a stack of coloured hoops, which look a bit like a lighthouse. You press the screen to fire a stream of cannon balls into that lighthouse, knocking it down one layer at a time.

In the way are a bunch of randomly rotating blocks, on hit of which spells game over.

It's fun, in its own simplistic way. But it won't last forever. So what do you play next?

AZ Rockets

AZ Rockets

AZ Rockets doesn't look anything like Fire Balls 3D (it's far prettier and more abstract), but it's conceptually similar. It's another shooter that's all about timing rather than aiming and movement.

Your little rocket launcher moves along a twisting track, and you must time your taps to take out your targets, which happen to be letters that make up words. It's good fun, and a natural next step if you dug Voodoo's effort.

2
The Bug Butcher

Publisher: Awfully Nice Studios
Available on: iOS + Android + Steam

The Bug Butcher

The Bug Butcher is kind of like a reinvention of Space Invaders, so it's mechanically a little bit more complex than Fire Balls 3D. But not by that much.

Enemies spawn in from above you, while you make your little gun slinger dodge left and right and blast them out of the sky. Think of this as your next target-shooting step after the simple delights found elsewhere.

3
Shump

Publisher: AlexVsCoding
Available on: iOS
Find out more about Shump
Shump

Shump is a Doodle Jump-style endless jumper, but with a classic shoot-'em-up angle. You keep bounding towards the sky whilst simultaneously blowing enemies away.

Like Fire Balls 3D, it's a very simple take on the shooter - albeit in a more mechanically interesting way.

4
DueLito

Available on: iOS
Find out more about DueLito
DueLito

Another super-simple one-handed shooter that isn't really a shooter. DueLito has you facing up to rival gunslingers, and asks you to tap out a random sequence of buttons to get your shot off first.

It's not the best or deepest game you'll ever play, but if you like the premise of Fire Balls 3D you might like this too.
